Brown v Board of Education was a court case regarding the separate schools for black and white children. In class we had a mock trial of this case and heard from both sides of the case.
Brown:
Brown argued that the separate schools violated the 14th amendment. It was also argued that the black schools weren't equal to the whites and it wasn't constitutional. The black school was a small building with volunteer teachers. They had no books and the students were still discriminated. Saying this, these conditions show a since of inferiority and it can suppress African American children.
Board of Education:
According to the Board of Education we are accustomed to segregation. If we integrated schools we would lose money and support from the southerners that help our economy. There is a biblical reference to this case that says "obey segregation, obey Christ". Another downfall to integrating schools would be that it would be overpopulated. It would also create conflict between the white and black families resulting in distraction, riots and the loss of students.
In conclusion Brown won the case, deciding that the segregated schools were unconstitutional.
